Want to know a fast way to learn Spanish?
This is something I came across during my years living in South Florida and started to learn Spanish fast without realizing it.
I am not talking about learning Spanish from books, CDs, videos or the latest greatest app.
My Spanish speaking progress went to a whole different level when I started dating a South American girl.
Think about it.
If you are dating someone from a different country it’s very likely that you’ll also have a new cultural immersion.
Specially people from South America tend to have a big social life and this means that you’ll be invited to barbecues, birthday parties and other events where you’ll have a chance to practice Spanish.
This type of practice is the fastest and most effective way because you are learning one on one with real life people.
You’ll learn conversational Spanish and have a chance to get your point across by using gestures as well as one word at a time communication.
For example if you are learning at a distance, let’s say speaking Spanish with a native on Skype, the “gesture” part is reduced to almost zero.
We as humans have been communicating with words and gestures for thousand years and so it’s no surprise to me that it still is the quickest way to learn a foreign language.
Yes listening to conversational Spanish CDs is helpful and so is talking to someone on Skype.
However let’s not forget the most natural way of learning, which still is light years ahead of any “technological” device.
Now let’s take a look at some easy Spanish phrases that you can use when talking to someone for the first time:
Hola cómo estás – Hi how are you
Me llamo Andy – I’m Andy
Te gusta Miami? – Do you like Miami?
Te gusta el pollo? – Do you like chicken (in a barbecue talk)
Te gusta aprender Español? – Do you like learning Spanish (someone asking you)
Si me encanta – Yes I love it (you replying)
Remember that when you are first starting out you don’t have to keep the conversation too long.
Speaking for two minutes or so is often enough to get your confidence level up.
And did you know that 1 minute of speaking to someone live is worth more than one hour of studying a textbook in your local Spanish class?
Yes my friend, I just gave you a big secret for learning Spanish fast.
The trick is to increase the conversation time from 1 to 2 to minutes, then to 5 minutes, 10 minutes and so on.
Before you’ll know it you’ll be speaking so much Spanish that your friends and family will tell you to shut up.
But it all starts with that one minute live conversation.
